Gym bag suggestions?
I need a new gym bag! Do you have any suggestions for me?
I’ve been looking at http://mobile.lyleandscott.com/barrel-bag/accessories/eagle/fcp-product/795?colour=fjord-blue but I haven’t been able to make up my mind.
What’s your gym bag and are you happy with it? Which gym bag should I buy?

Return to running after being sick
I returned to running today after having benched myself for the past three months. I was out for two months because of an injury in my hip from overtraining. And now I’ve been out for another month because the cough following a chest infection is being more stubborn than I am!
9 days till my next marathon and I’ve ran less than 60km since the beginning of July! I’m starting to...

HIIT: friend or fad?
A couple of times a year I’ll add HIIT (high-intensity interval training) to my exercise regimen. I admit it, I succumb to the fantasy of the supernormal improvements promised by HIIT. After a couple of weeks I’ll quit and go back to running the way I do the rest of the year. For me it is therefore effectively a way to shake my body out of what could otherwise become too much of a...
January round-up
Returned to resistance training and increased my bench press from 10-10-10-10-10 to 15-15-15-15-17 with the same weight. Time to up the weight again for February. If I could only have that kind of progress every month!
Started running again (now that it’s no longer 10 degrees outside). I ran my regular 4-mile track in 36:23 the first run of the year, 35:18 the second time around (which...

…Play-Doh!
I am not even joking!
Worst tasting protein powder ever. Still better than unflavoured.

The food-mood connection →
LA times just ran a story on the food-mood connection which links some common expectations with recent research. It probably doesn’t tell you anything you didn’t already know, but I found it to be a good reminder, nonetheless.
Back to basics. Here we go again...
To increase the quality of the food that enters my system I have to start counting calories again. I wish I didn’t have to. It’s not really the calories that matter to me - and that’s why I stopped counting. But counting makes me think more. Not only about the quantities of food I eat, but more importantly: the quality.
I haven’t been eating right recently. I’ve...

Went running in the rain last night...
…and it felt so good.
I don’t mind running in the rain as long as it doesn’t get any colder. Too bad winter is coming. The leaves started falling from the trees this morning.
Running Fail
I was supposed to go running with my sister this evening. We got ready, got in the car to go run in the forest at the edge of town, and then she tells me she needs to make a quick stop first.
An hour later we’re still in the furniture store looking at beds…
Then we pass by the grocery store ‘cause she needs to pick up a few things…
Then we realise neither of us know...

Do you know any good yoga resources?
I spent a week at a yoga retreat while I was travelling around Australia. In addition to the classes, there was a library of yoga training videos on DVD that I found really helpful. I prefer having someone talk me through the poses at timed intervals instead of just following my own routine. I have been looking for some good free yoga videos online, but so far I have come up short. So:
Do you...

WIW: 152.6 lbs (-0.8 lbs)
Over the months I spent in Australia, the Philippines and Hong Kong I actually lost 0.8 lbs. I have been able to keep the fat off, and now I’m back in a regular setting, where I’ll be better able to keep a better eye on what I eat and how I exercise. I just need to figure out a reliable way to measure bodyfat changes - cause that’s what’s important to me. I got the...

Brave New World
As of today, I’m a law-student at the University of Oslo.
Apparently I cannot get enough of studying. With a BA (Hons) in Business and a MSc in Finance under my belt already, I’m now going for the hat-trick. If you were to ask me why, I would have to tell you that it’ll keep me busy (and a ‘functional’ part of society) while I look for a proper job again. It’s...

I finished my first ever marathon!
I ran my first marathon today, clocking in at 4:33:23.4. I was aiming for 4:30, so I’m happy with that time, and more importantly: I ran the whole way! I stopped to pee once, and for a couple of seconds to drink a few times (after miserably tying to drink while running at the first pit stop), but I didn’t walk any of the 42.2 km. I ran!
It was great fun. I’m now dead...

I'm running the Brisbane marathon on Sunday!
It’s been decided. Sunday I’ll be running my first ever marathon. In Brisbane.
I’ve been stuck in Caloundra for the past two weeks because my car broke down. Today, the mechanic finally called and said he had finished fitting a replacement transmission and starter engine, which means the car is ready to go. Alhough the plan is to head towards Cairns, I can’t let the...

I have been failing
Hi guys,
I haven’t been eating well recently. I’ve been travelling, and have now made it to he outskirts of Brisbane, where I’m working at a Yoga-retreat. It’s great here, but despite the yoga, he work is stressful. And I’m unhappy because I miss my ex girlfriend and stuff. It’s all wreaking havoc with my emotions, which translates into binges.
The work is...

I haven't been posting much recently.
With travelling and few opportunities for Internet access I haven’t had time to write any interesting posts about fitness, and now even my calorie counting has gone out the window.
I’m still focused on reaching my goals, but without a bathroom scale and weekly weigh-ins I am currently writing more about my travels than my running. I’ve got a travel tumblr on...

TMI Warning
I am not, as Sheldon Cooper would say, having regular bowel movements. I don’t know if it’s increases intake of biodynamic food or if it is the water out here (maybe you’re not supposed to drink it?). One way or the other, I have been having a couple of troublesome days. It doesn’t help that the bathroom is rather large, and fully tiled, which gives every small sound a...

Day 48: +790 kcal
Elmswood Farm does not disappoint. Patrice Newell cooked us up a great dinner using only ingredients grown on the farm. We had beef dumplings as a starter, followed by grilled beef steaks and sausages, with (literally) a garden salad, silver beets and some other things I can’t remember. But it was remarkable.
I also went for a run as the sun was setting. It’s great to be here and...

Day 47: +270 kcal
I left Sydney today to go to Elmswood Farm for a couple of days. I’m staying at Phillip Adams and Patrice Newell at their organic farm by Gundy, NSW. We arrived late in the evening, so we haven’t had a chance to see the property yet, but we had a great dinner with organic sausages from the farm. I can’t wait to see what the next couple of days will bring in terms of food and...

Day 46: +285 kcal
I bought my first car today! A red 1990 Toyota Camry that I bought for A$900 from two Danish backpackers who were desperate to recover some of their investment in a car before they were leaving the country in two days. It can barely fit all 4 of us with all our stuff, but it’s perfect. Now I just have to pray that it’ll take us at least to Cairns, and maybe even all the way around...

Day 44: -280 kcal
Went running around the Sydney Opera House and the Botanical Gardens for the second time. It’s a really nice place to run, one of my all time favourites. I particularly love how there are stairs in the botanical gardens, leading down to the water, where it’s perfect to run up and down a couple of times before finishing the lap.

Day 42: -1,740 kcal
After my terrible binge yesterday I decided to take rather drastic measures of eating very little today. Combined I’m still at a calorie surplus for the last two days, but for me this is the best way of kick-starting healthy eating. By eating little, and eating raw. I need more vegetables, though.
Finally found working internet in one of the public libraries in Sydney, close to Circular...

Day 41: +1,895 kcal
I binged today. We moved out of the boat and into a hotel, and on the way we ended up buying a lot of bad food, such as TimTams. It doesn’t help that I don’t have internet connection every day so that I only end up reflection on my food intake every couple of days. I need to make more of an effort. I haven’t made any progress in the last two weeks, but now I’m getting used...

I didn’t do much today. I got sucked in to eating a Butterfinger cause I haven’t had one in ages (they don’t sell them in Europe). I’m getting a bit bored with Sydney, and want to head towards Cairns instead. I ha e to wait for the others to arrive, thought. They’ll be here on Saturday, though. I’m sure they’ll want to spend a couple of days here and then...

Day 37: -920 kcal
Walked around Sydney for 3 hours, mostly around the harbour area. I had already visited the area around the Opera House, but this time I also crossed the Harbour Bridge back and forth. It freaked me out how tall it actually was, it didn’t look that tall from the ground. But it was a really nice walk, with a great view, although it would have been even better if there weren’t so many...
